Ce que le blogo a déjà dénoncé comme une probable "psy-op" (psychological operation) destinée à mobiliser l'opinion occidentale en faveur de l'intervention en Libye refait son apparition par le biais du Procureur de la Cour pénale internationale. Il faut rappeler qu'après les déclarations de Susan Rice, des sources des services secrets et de l'armée US avaient démenti précisément cela.

Pourquoi le procureur remet-il ça sur le tapis? Difficile de voir se dessiner le moindre élément de preuve en lisant les articles de presse qui le rapportent. Le "bullshit detector" est donc à fond dans le rouge. En plus des dénégations de ces officiels anonymes américains, l'histoire est tout simplement "too good to be true" et ressemble trop à des fantasmes et des projections d'occidentaux. Typiquement les trucs qui sortent des officines de psyops US. On rappellera les petites filles afghanes dont on coupe les bras si elles se mettent du vernis à ongle (mensonge cher à notre président auquel personne n'a osé demander s'il croyait véritablement à cette histoire ou s'il était un propagandiste de bas étage sur le sujet - Rony Brauman l'a interpelé précisément sur ce sujet). Ou les bébés koweïtiens privés d'incubateur lors de l'invasion de 1990.

Les occidentaux peuvent-ils et doivent-ils instrumentaliser la Cour pénale internationale pour servir leurs objectifs politiques immédiats? Le blogo ne lâchera pas cette affaire quoi qu'il en soit même si le bullshit detector du blogo s'avérait défectueux.

The TARP as a masterpiece

Huge bonuses ($120bln just for the top 5 WS firms in the last 5 years) for people who were destroying the American (and world) economy was only a draft. The real masterpiece from a moral standpoint is phase 2: the TARP.

Will he?

Will Obama try to tackle the causes of the crisis during his inauguration speech? Will he say what must be obvious to any candid observer of politics in the United States: that the crisis is the result of the corruption of the political system? Will he incriminate the power structure?

He probably won't and he will thus miss the opportunity of making his presidency an important one from the get go. Or at least, by postponing this obvious diagnostic, he will lose a couple of years before starting real reform.

Why not?

From a reader in New York, I learn a blogger was sent to jail because he got too critical of the state of the economy there. I would have argued that there were strong pressures in all countries to foster positive economic punditry but I had just never thought that people could be sent to jail. That may be less stupid than lowering the rates to zero or less corrupt than the bailout plan. Indeed. Why not?
